What You Can Expect at Lego Live NYC This Weekend

Children and adults will be able to play with millions of Lego bricks this weekend at LEGO Live NYC, which will be held Feb. 16-18 at Pier 36 in Lower Manhattan. We got a sneak peek at what fans will expect.

Walking in, you’ll see giant models of a Porsche, Luke Skywalker, Delta the Dinosaur, and even Cinderella’s Shoe—all made of Legos! Those are just among some of the most popular models of the show. Almost all of these models took countless hours and Legos to make. For example, the model of Cinderella’s shoe was built out of 1,500 Lego pieces, and it took 200 hours to make.

Lego models were shipped to the venue prebuilt—making the task of unloading them nervewracking to see!

LEGO Live NYC will include a range of interactive themed play zones, including classic building challenges using coding and robotic technology to program a model. Lego fans can build, code, and play with the new Lego Boost and heritage Lego Mindstorms toolkits to test their skills in creating a Lego robot; partake in building their way through the iconic and ever-popular Minecraft universe with the thousands of specialty Lego pieces from Lego Minecraft, found in this creative building zone—and even experience the world through virtual reality; and work together as a group to create iconic skyscrapers that are in the Manhattan area using Lego Architecture. The Lego Star Wars, Ninjango, Duplo, City, and Friends lines will also be available for building fun.

“We want it to be interactive. We do not want you to come here and just sit on your hands,” said Lego Master Builder Christopher Steininger. “It’s all about building with Legos, but also being creative.”

The highlight of LEGO Live, though, will be live Q-and-A Steininger. Plus, Lego-lovers will also be able to get 1-on-1 advice from him—perfect for tackling Lego projects at home!

Attendees will also be able to browse a huge selection of Lego sets for builders of any age.

Pier 36 is located at 299 South St. in Lower Manhattan. Tickets are $30 for general admission; $45 for Very Important Guest; and $75 for Very Important Kid. Admission hours depend on the level of ticket purchased.
