The
Liberty Science Center’s amazing new exhibit, Mammoths and Mastodons,
kicks
off this month with a rare and special attraction, Baby Lyuba, a perfectly
preserved infant mammoth found in
Siberia two years ago. The exhibit has plenty of other fun for kids,
including over 100 rare fossils and specimens and full-sized animal models, but
if you want to see Baby Lyuba, make sure to get there before November 10th,
when she continues her tour around the world! (All Weekend)

At
the "A Happy Family" concert from  the Little Orchestra Society
kids can check out the "first family" of musical fun’s
Bang, Buzz, Toot, Bow as they perform
kid-friendly classics like Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy and
Debussy’s Cakewalk. (Saturday)

At the interactive Wizard of Oz exhibit at
CMOM
(which will continue through January 9th) kids can create a tornado in
Dorothy’s bedroom, explore the
Emerald City, meet the Tin Man and Scarecrow and much
more. (All Weekend)

The 8th Annual My Dog Loves Central Park
Country Fair
is a great event for dog owners and non-owners alike, and will
feature a dog costume contest, a designated play area, and a chance for pet
owners to get their pup microchipped. (Saturday)

To
celebrate its 10th anniversary, Super Soccer Stars will host a free festival,
featuring
soccer stations, performances from magicians and jugglers, tasty treats from
vendors like Buttercup Bake Shop and Rita’s Italian Ice, a performance from Tim
and the Space Cadets and more. (Saturday) 

"Freckleface Strawberry," the
lively and critically-acclaimed  musical based on the best-selling book by
Julianne Moore,
debuted last week at the New World Stages, and boasts
frequent performances throughout the weekend and upcoming weeks. (All Weekend)

At the Annual Fall Kids Fest at Madison Square Park this Saturday,
kids can enjoy music, pumpkin-picking and a costume parade, while parents
peruse the nearby upscale outdoor market, Mad. Sq. Mark’t. (Saturday)

The Central Branch of the Brooklyn Public
Library will host Drawn in Brooklyn Illustrators’ Festival,
where children’s book authors will read from and sign copies of
their printed work, while kids participate in art workshops and jam to
performances from local musicians.(Saturday)

El
Museo Del Barrio hosts Super Sabado this weekend, with free activities,

concerts, exhibit tours and more to celebrate the Mexican tradition, Dia de los
Muertos. (Saturday)

Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, a North Carolina-
based "kid hop" band,
will make their NYC debut at Symphony
Space, performing the hit song "I Gotta Be Me." (Saturday)

At the Rock the Block street fair at The
School at Columbia University,
families can play games, go on rides, nosh
on tasty treats, watch live music and entertainment, conduct science
experiments, take part in raffles and auctions, and lots more! (Saturday)

This weekend has two great opportunities for kids to get up close and personal
with their favorite authors; at Books of Wonder’s October Book Bonanza, kids
can chat with Vincent Kirsch, Erica S. Pearl and Artie Bennett, while Peter Sis reads at the Bank Street Bookstore
in Morningside Heights. 

It’s
perfect pumpkin picking weather! Take a trip to the Queens Farm Museum to pick
a pumpkin from the farm’s patch,
and make sure to explore the Amazing Maize Maze (an interactive,
corn-field adventure) while you’re there. (Saturday & Sunday)

Get up close and personal with over 160
breeds of dog and 41 breeds of cat at the American Kennel Club’s annual Meet
the Breeds event at the Javits Center!
Families can interact with the
animals, watch demonstrations and pick up a treat or two for their favorite
pooch. (Saturday & Sunday)

At the Watercolor Workshop at the Whitney,
families can learn about the work of famed painter Charles Burchfield,
and
then try watercolor painting for themselves. (Saturday)

Your kids may not enjoy eating
their vegetables, but they will love the quirky style of the musical group Hot Peas N’ Butter when
they take the stage at the Jewish Museum.

At
the 10th Annual NYC International Pickle Day on Broome Street,
there will
be activities for kids of all ages, free pickle samples from around the world,
plus live performances and art viewings. (Sunday)

Make this Tuesday particularly special with a
trip to the 17th Annual Family Party at the American Museum of Natural History,
where kids can interact with live animals, measure skulls, examine an ivory
tusk with a microscope, walk with a giant tortoise and much more. (Tuesday)
