Weekend Planner May 7-May 8

Two important things that I learned from my mother: the
difference between a salad and a dinner fork and also that life, in essence, is
too short not to be celebrated. So with that in mind, and with Mother’s Day
just around the bend, why not show mom just how much you care? —

From brunch round-ups to recipes; and chocolate shops to flower
walks—here’s a few of our favorite events and treats for weekend a la mamacita.

Lucky for us (and our wallets), Target has coordinated two
free museum days this weekend. On Saturday, head on over to the Brooklyn
Museum for nature-inspired programming
or instead, spend Sunday at the Studio
Museum at their weaving workshop.

If the sun comes out and decides to stay for while, the
options are limitless. Get in touch with your inner Yogi Bear at Fort
Tyron Park’s
Wildlife Appreciation Day. Or stroll along the Bowery and check out The New
York Museum’s promising Festival of Ideas Streetfest (Hello! Pop-up Imagination
Playground!)

For mega-fans of Playhouse Disney, you’ll be tickled to know
that The Imagination Movers will be in town for several live shows this
weekend. Catch Scott, Smitty, Dave and Rich in real life rockability.

Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian's Legacy

The Morgan Library & Museum will present a major exhibition devoted to the life and career of its inaugural director, Belle da Costa Greene (1879–1950). Widely recognized as an authority on illuminated manuscripts and deeply respected as a cultural heritage executive, Greene was one of the most prominent librarians in American history. The exhibition will trace Greene’s storied life, from her roots in a predominantly Black community in Washington, D.C., to her distinguished career at the helm of one of the world’s great research libraries. Through extraordinary objects―from medieval manuscripts and rare printed books to archival records and portraits―the exhibition will demonstrate the confidence and savvy Greene brought to her roles as librarian, scholar, curator, and cultural executive, and honor her enduring legacy.
