STARTING FRIDAY

Have some fun this Independence Day at Prospect Park, which is hosting fun, themed activities all afternoon to commemorate the holiday. Be patriotic! (Friday)

Celebrate the New-York Historical Society’s newest exhibition, “Madeline in New York,” with an ultra awesome family day at the DiMenna Children’s History Museum, which includes a meet-and-greet with Madeline herself. Story time! (Friday)

In honor of children’s book character Madeline’s 75th anniversary and her creator Ludwig Bemelmans, the New-York Historical Society is hosting “Madeline in New York.” Admire the art! (Friday through October)

Enjoy July 4th at the New-York Historical Society Museum & Library—this family day will incorporate historically themed activities like the Independence Day Scavenger Hunt, a live concert by the Hudson River Ramblers, and an arts and crafts session. Get crafty! (Friday)

Discover an exhibit all about arachnids with “Spiders Alive!” at the American Museum of Natural History. Stay brave! (Friday through November)

STARTING SATURDAY 

In the “Youth Moves” movement workshop at the Jane Bailey Memorial Garden, all are welcome to dance hip hop and bond with family. Dance away! (Saturday)

Join visiting artist Jan Mun as she explores the different kinds of mushrooms in the world and explains their environmental role at Wave Hill.  Learn something new! (Saturday)

Dive into a performance full of creatures, magic, and the ocean at Galli Theater’s production of “The Little Mermaid,” a unique twist on the beloved fairytale. Take your seat! (Saturday through July 27)

STARTING SUNDAY

The Central Park Zoo Wildlife Theater comes to Brooklyn Bridge Park to present “Amazing Adaptations: The Dinosaur Adventure.” Sing along and learn some science. Have fun in the great outdoors! (Sunday)

Dance the afternoon away at the South Street Seaport to the songs of Tim and the Space Cadets, who will perform music off their family friendly album, “Anthems for Adventure.” Dance along! (Sunday)
