Family days that pack a well-to-do punch are always our favorite—which is why
we’re big supporters of the 7th Annual Carnival for a Cure which benefits the
Diabetes Research Institute Foundation. Taking place on Sunday, March 11 from 12-3pm at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street), kids and parents alike can delight in music,
jousting, crafts and more. Learn more about the cause and the family-friendly festivities

What is the mission of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRI)?
As the largest and most comprehensive research center dedicated to curing
diabetes, the DRI is aggressively working to shrink the timeline
toward the discovery of a biological cure for this disease. Having
already shown that diabetes can be reversed through islet transplantation, the DRI is building upon these promising outcomes by
bridging cell-based therapies with emerging technologies. The Diabetes Research
Institute was created for one reason—to cure diabetes—which is and will
continue to be its singular focus until that goal is reached. For the millions
of people affected by diabetes, the DRI is the best hope for a cure. For more
information, call 1-800-321-3437 or visit DiabetesResearch.org.
This will be the 7th Carnival for a
Cure. What kind of fun can families look forward to?
The Carnival for a Cure is
the city’s largest indoor carnival for kids (and fun for parents, too!). We are excited to announce that Jenna Rose will
be our special guest performer. At the young age of 13 (and no stranger
to the stage), Jenna has been performing all over Long Island and NY, headlining concerts at locations like Jones Beach, Landmark Theater and The Bitter End.
Kids
will also enjoy a slew of the most sought-after games like Gladiator Joust,
Micro Reality Race Track, Bungee Bull, a karaoke machine, Guitar Hero
and other arcade games, 7×7 foosball and Ultimate Gaga in the Gaga Pit.
In between, they can catch a magic trick by roaming performers, laugh at
clowns, get their faces painted or participate in arts and crafts.
And what’s a carnival without food? Offering something for everyone, the
event will feature fare from Bridgewaters & Twenty Four Fifth, La
Esquina and food truck Sweetery NYC; Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs,
Pretzel Crisps, popchips and organic Clif Bars; items from Trader
Joe’s, Edible Arrangements and Fresh Direct; and tasting
tables hosted by Cabot Creamery and Hillside Candy, manufacturers
of GoLightly sugar-free candy. Wash it down with beverages by Honest
Tea and water sponsor, WAT-AAH!
I hear there will be a silent auction, as well. What are some of the offerings?
While kids run wild,
parents can roam the silent auction, featuring several exclusive offerings such
as a chance to have “Elmo” from Sesame Street leave a personalized voicemail
for your child, tickets to Broadway shows like Sister Act and Priscilla
Queen of the Desert, Pinkalicious branded items, high-end
hotel stays, sports packages, jewelry and more.
How can a family get involved in the
cause and the event?
We encourage anyone
interested in helping find the cure visit diabetesresearch.org and get
involved however they can. Ticket information is available at the site with
individual tickets costing $75 per child and $100 per adult. Children
under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information,
contact the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation at 212-888-2217or carnival@drif.org.
