Take a poll of any ten people and ask: Did your parents read you The Very Hungry Caterpillar as a child, or do you read the book to your kids? I am willing to say nine times out of 10 the answer is yes. Eric Carle’s delightful tale (as well as his other books) are treasured reading for parents and their little ones.
My family is no different. I was read this book and now read it to my son. So when I found out that this book along with three other Eric Carle tales had been turned into a live show, I absolutely had to take my family.
The 60-minute show, which is the perfect length for your little ones–or fidgety dads like me–was an absolute winner. The four books they perform are The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, Mister Seahorse, The Very Lonely Firefly, and last but not least, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Each story was so well told with such a beautiful array of puppets. I, along with probably most of the audience, was there to see the caterpillar, and that did not disappoint. But as someone who was unfamiliar with the other three books, I found them just as entertaining. To say everyone in attendance, adults included, were spellbound by the time the 60 minutes were over would be an understatement.
