The Law Offices of Andrew M. Cohen, P.C., located in Garden City, recently welcomed Laura Adler-Greene, Esq., as an associate attorney specializing in Children’s Rights, Special Education Law, and Special Needs Planning. Adler-Greene joined the practice to advocate for and represent parents in Nassau and Suffolk counties in special education legal matters.
If a child is accused of violating the school code of conduct and the school district is looking to bring the child to a hearing, Adler-Greene can represent the family at the disciplinary hearing. Additionally, if the family is unhappy with the classes their child is placed in or unhappy with the available support, education, and services for their child’s needs, Adler-Greene can provide guidance and representation in changing that placement.
An Individualized Education Plan, or IEP, is designed to ensure that each child with a disability receives the specialized services and instruction that they, as an individual, need. Adler-Greene can help parents to ensure the IEP is best suited to their child’s success and needs and that it is enforced.
“I aim to educate and empower parents so they can advocate for their children,” Adler-Greene says. “My mission is to help those who can’t help themselves.”
Adler-Greene received her Juris Doctorate at Touro College and is admitted to practice law in the state of New York. She has been practicing special education law for the last 14 years and says she is inspired by her experiences as a parent of a child with special needs. She has been an adjunct professor for the elective Special Ed Law at Toro Law School since 2004.
