Camp Italia USA, a two-week summer camp, offers Italian culture, education, and fun.
Beginning July 16, Camp Italia USA will offer Italian culture, education, and fun during a two-week summer camp. This unique program will offer the full Italian experience and offer several aspects of Italian education through language, food, fashion, and art.
Maria Arianas, Camp Italia USA’s co-founder, is fluent in Italian and says she wants to pass the culture on to her children but could not find a way to offer them the full Italian experience. So she joined forces with co-founder Dona Fontanetta and decided to create it. “We wanted to create something unique…that engages young generations of today,” Arianas says. The camp focuses on “what it’s like to live in Italy today” and allows campers to “experience all it has to offer.”
Children ages 4-13 will be divided into three age groups: Bambinis, Ragazzis, and Giavanottis, and will learn about Italian traditions, music, games, and social vocabulary. Italian themes that are not celebrated in the United States will be introduced in the camp, and basic Italian language will be taught in a fun and practical way. The children will also learn through their meals: after being told what they are eating, they will learn the history behind the dishes. They will also be taught how to order their own Italian dishes.
