Sylvan Learning Center, an academic enrichment center with locations across the New York metro area, recently opened a new location in Mineola and will offer new summer workshops and Math Edge at the Huntington location.
The Mineola location, which opened in February, offers academic enrichment services for children in pre-K to 12 grade. Students are able work with a tutor on subjects such as reading, writing, mathematics, SAT and ACT prep, as well as STEM Programs in robotics and coding.
The Huntington location will offer a series of one-day summer workshops such as STEM workshops on Saturday mornings for children in first-sixth grade. Math Edge, for students going into third-eighth grade, offers remedial or enrichment support in math twice a week.
“The biggest goal is to find a solution to help kids really catch up and feel good about school,” says Lisa Amaya, managing director of center operations for the Huntington and Mineola locations. “I always say to parents, we don’t want to be a Band-Aid and help kids with their homework that evening. We want to figure out what is it that is making school hard, what is it that is making homework difficult, and we want to go in a find those unmet needs and catch the student up and give them that confidence that they can do it on their own going forward.”
Parents can schedule a free consultation to meet with a Sylvan Learning Center director to discuss their family’s unique needs. Following that, an evaluation appointment can be made to assess where the child is performing academically and create an individualized learning plan.
