Sylvan, one of the nation’s premier names in personalized tutoring and academic support, is launching its Sylvan In-Home program in Manhattan following its successful introduction in other major metros including Boston, MA and Washington, DC.
The 40-year-old organization will now offer its proven approach with new flexibility: The custom mobile app allows parents and caregivers to select, schedule, and communicate seamlessly with tutors. Experienced, vetted Sylvan tutors are available anytime, anywhere, to accommodate any schedule. Tutors can work alongside students at the local library, at the kitchen table, or elsewhere.
“Sylvan is dedicated to helping students thrive,” Sylvan Learning CEO John McAuliffe said. “Sylvan In-Home continues that tradition, and provides the added flexibility that so many urban families need to accommodate busy schedules. Whether a child requires support across a range of subjects, or tutoring for a specific unit or particular standardized test, our tutors will help them achieve their highest potential.”
Sylvan In-Home is built on three core principles: attention, results, and convenience. Many Sylvan In-Home tutors use SylvanSync — a proprietary platform powered by logic that customizes each student’s learning plan based on assessment results and adapts to the student based on data from student performance in previous lessons. The customized learning plan dictates which lessons students receive and the order in which they should be taught. The teacher and student use the iPad like a digital textbook to deliver the lessons.
Sylvan’s interactive tutoring method is proven: Independent research (performed by Hypothesi, the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, and more) confirms that the Sylvan Method boosts students’ skills, grades, and confidence.
Sylvan In-Home serves students in grades K through 12 in the subjects of math, reading, science, and homework support. It provides test prep for students in grades nine through 12, as well.
“Our Manhattan launch comes only a couple months before summer break — an ideal time for students to finish the school year strong and gain an edge on the academic work ahead,” Sylvan Learning VP of Education Emily Levitt said.
This year, Sylvan Learning is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Over the past four decades, Sylvan has helped 4 million students around the world achieve academic success, including NYC area centers on the Upper West Side, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Rego Park, and Northern New Jersey. To mark the milestone, Sylvan is hosting a range of events worldwide to thank the parents, students, and educators who are part of the community. Learn more here.
