July 24, 2012
songs for seeds will be performing original songs as well as well-known nursery rhymes and top 40 hits in Madison Square Park from 10:30 to 11:30am. The band likes to get kids ages newborn to around 5 years to sing, play along, and dance. Learn more about the group here.

Recess Monkey, a band made up of three elementary school teachers, is bringing their kindie rock show to Rufus King Park. They’re known for giving high-energy performances that will have you and your kids singing and laughing all at the same time. They’ll be playing from 10:30 to 11:30am; details here.

Get ready to dance with Ernie and Neal! This high-energy and educational duo will take you dancing through different music genres. Catch them in Albee Square from 10 to 11 am.

Couldn’t get enough of Recess Monkey? See them again in Madison Square Park. Keep the laughing and singing going from 10:30 to 11:30am; find out more here.

Check out Erin Lee and the Up Past Bedtime Band at Pier 1 at 70th Street With songs about everything from lost baseballs to loose teeth, she sings about what really matters to kids. As part of the Summer on the Hudson series, the show is free and starts at 10:30am.

Keep the laughs going with Zak Morgan in Union Square Park’s North Pavilion at noon. Described as a cross between Cat Stevens, Dr. Seuss, and Shel Silverstein, through music and humor Morgan delivers life lessons for kids of all ages. The show is free as part of the Kids in the Square series.

Calling all rock and roll fans; the Dirty Sock Funtime Band is back in Madison Square Park to dance and rock out with your kids (and you!) from 10:30 to 11:30am. Learn more here.

Rock and roll…and reading? That’s the message Rockasaurus Rex is bringing to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park. This 7-foot dinosaur, along with his best friend Thaddeus, will have your kids rocking out while also explaining to them the importance of reading. Check them out from 10:30 to 11:30am.

Robbi K and Friends are back in Fort Greene Park’s Music in the Grove summer series. Starting at 10am, learn about different cultures and why being different is cool all while dancing and singing along.

Here’s the last chance to get your kid pumped about reading with Rockasaurus Rex and Thaddeus Rex. Part of the Summer on the Hudson series, they’ll be at Pier 1 at 70th Street. Get there at 10am for all the rock and roll fun.

Combining inspiring messages with hip hop beats, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo will have your whole family up and dancing from 10:30 to 11:30am in Alfred E. Smith Park. Bonus: your kids might even learn a thing or two. More info.

If string music is more your style, make your way to the Red Steps in Van Cortlandt Park from 10:30 to 11:30am to hear The Ebony Hillbillies; NYC’s last remaining black string band. You won’t be able to resist dancing to their style that involves everything from jazz to country to rock and roll. More details here.

Kids in the Square brings the musical musings of Bari Koral to Union Square’s North Pavilion at noon. Her pop songs are a hit with parents and kids, and her interactive live shows are fun for all ages.

Prepare to laugh (and dance) with The Funkey Monkeys. Performing at Pier 1 at 70th Street as part of the Summer on the Hudson series, this eclectic group incorporates sketches and improvisation into their live music show. Be there by 10:30am!
