Book Nook is an early childhood literacy enrichment program founded on the Upper West Side, with a Tribeca expansion planned for Spring 2017. Book Nook’s mission focuses on readying children for every stage of their early development as they prepare for academic success. Our program is divided into tiers for children from 6 months to 7 years old, with a specific, developmentally appropriate curriculum designed for each age group. Our classes are once a week for 90 minutes, and are structured to introduce routine and focus through a balance of academics, music, books, and art. The first tier, our Lil Hoots, begins with easing separation anxiety and building confidence as the children transition into an educational environment for the first time. Early Hoots are getting ready for preschool, and are tasked with skill building and handwriting activities, along with the continuation of fine motor exercises. Pre Hoots are usually already enrolled in preschool, and are honing and enhancing upon skills previously introduced, while also developing phonemic awareness to ready themselves for reading. Kinder Hoots are in the final stages of kindergarten readiness, and focus mainly on handwriting, pre-reading, and ultimately, reading books independently. Wise Owls are already enrolled in elementary school, and are working on augmenting their skills through independent reading, grammar exercises, phonetic spelling, and comprehension activities.
We are excited to introduce our newest classes to the Tribeca location, Baby Hoots and Gift & Talented Program. Each tier’s curriculum has been developed to ensure our students continue to be challenged, while also helping to cultivate and nurture their confidence, comfort, and enthusiasm for education. Book Nook’s Upper West Side location has been a wonderful success, and we are looking forward to branching out this spring. Our Tribeca location will not only include our leveled classes, but will also be available for birthday parties, book readings, private events, and more. We are excited to open our doors to a larger community of parents and children, and can’t wait to create a second home downtown.
