South Shore Ballet Academy, a classical ballet training school for children ages 9 and older, opened in September on Long Island. The school is open six days a week at various times for its different dance programs.
The school offers Classical Ballet training as well as Ballet Fundamentals, Pre-Ballet, and Creative Movement classes. Kids with professional ambitions, as well as novices, are welcome, and each student is given a particular plan based on their physical and intellectual level. Gretchen Gunther, owner of South Shore Ballet Academy, has danced professionally and has more than 20 years of experience teaching various levels of ballet, from pre-ballet to advanced.
“The mission of the school is to provide exceptional ballet training, motivating each student to reach their fullest potential in a kind and positive manner,” Gunther says.
Creative Movement, held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, enhances 3- to 4-year-olds’ natural inclination to move with music. Pre-Ballet, held Thursdays and Saturdays, is for ages 5-6 and introduces basic ballet exercises. Ballet Fundamentals, held on Tuesdays and Saturdays, emphasizes correct posture and strengthens the core of 7- to-8-year-old dancers. Ballet Level A, held Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, is for ages 9 and older, and Ballet 12 and Up, held Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, is for ages 12 and older.
Classes at the academy are currently open for registration.
