Fear of the dark effects 50 percent of children between the ages of 2-7, and according to Fast Company: “A child’s bedtime anxiety can lead to a lifetime of insomnia.”
In an effort to combat these fears, a Brooklyn-based company called Hello Boo has launched a revolutionary new product for children called Glow Away!
After speaking to psychologists and pediatricians, the creators of Glow Away discovered the reason children are so terrified of the dark is because of their incredible imaginations. Where the imagination of children has traditionally been the root of their fears of the dark, Glow Away helps kids reverse this notion by using imagination, understanding and empowerment to overcome their fears instead.
Glow Away is a two piece set bedding set consisting of a beautifully illustrated Story Book and a cute corresponding glow in the dark duvet cover and pillow case. In the book, a young boy afraid of the dark, Sam, encounters “the yellow fellow,” Boo, who teaches the boy a magical spell that will protect him from monsters at night.
The “spell” is not only what glows in the dark on the duvet cover, but is what empowers children and helps them realize they can control their fears. Plus, parents can rest easy knowing that the duvet and pillow case–which come in a classic blue color and a limited edition pink color (proceeds from which will benefit children’s sleep charities)–are machine-washable and made from high-quality materials.
To help grow their burgeoning business, Glow Away just launched a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of raising $20,000 by April 4, 2015. Help Glow Away reach their goal so that the nearly 18 million kids across America who are scared of the dark can learn to manage fears and sleep well with sweet dreams!
