RoboMindTech Represented the U.S. in the World Robot Olympiad

Three students from RoboMindTech represented the United States in the World Robot Olympiad in India.

RoboMindTech is an award-winning science and technology learning center in Fresh Meadows that integrates the motivational effects of robotics and LEGO® play into a unique, hands-on curriculum designed to inspire young minds. This year they were invited to the World Robot Olympiad to represent the United States.

The World Robot Olympiad is an event for science, technology, and education which brings together young people from all over the world to develop their creativity and problem-solving skills through challenging and educational robotics competitions. Schools enter a team of three students and participating teams need to create, design, and build a robot model that is capable to perform a challenge.

Students from RoboMindTech have competed in the past. The team placed first in 2014, second in 2015, and second in 2016. They are excited to have been chosen for the next Olympiad, and the current team consists of Matthew Choi, an 11th grader from the Bronx High School of Science, Jack Chen, a 10th grader from the Huckley School, and Ronit Malde, an 8th grader at Riverside School. This will be the third time all three students have competed in the Olympiad.

The students travelled to India to compete in four separate categories that tested their skills in robotics, technology, and innovation. They were tasked with creating a robot that can help children clean, a robot made from recycled materials, and even a robot that can bowl completely independently.
