Social Play Haus, a 5,000-square-foot play and event space for parents and kids, opened in Plainview last month. The play area allows children to socialize while parents utilize shared work spaces with free Wifi and a work bar. Private, drop-in offices with supervised play are also available.
The space can also be used for events like birthday parties and baby showers. The Social Play Haus café offers specialty coffees and small plates, so families can enjoy healthy meals while socializing in the communal picnic area.
The space is designed to accommodate modern families and promote kindness and acceptance amongst children, according to Jenni Bacayon, who co-owns Social Play Haus with her husband Marc.
Jenni, a child psychologist, saw a need for a venue such as this and decided to fill it. While traditional child-centered play spaces are abundant in the area, a place for the whole family to work, play, and be productive was lacking.
“We designed this to be a judgement-free zone and very casual,” Jenni says.
Another feature of the space is a reflection room for children who experience overstimulation and need to take a break in a low-stimulation environment. The reflection room is also private enough to be used for nursing mothers and includes changing nooks and gender neutral bathrooms.
The café also offers kids favorites like macaroni and cheese and baked pretzels, as well as healthy and allergy-free options to enjoy on-site or to go.
