The NYMetroParents blogroll features the best blogs in the parenting world, from New York and beyond. Here’s a closer look at why we love these mom bloggers and dad bloggers and how they’re shaping the web for parenting today.
Blogging From: New York, New York
Founder Marinka has been raising her children in NYC’s west village and she never shies away from taking readers along for each milestone. She’s a proud mom with a brazen spirit and likes to stir the pot amongst her readers in a heavily commented-on section titled “I’m Right, You’re Wrong!” Topics range from a mother-daughter dispute about the length (or lack-thereof) of a pair of shorts, even the proper way to eat a Kit Kat bar.
Although posts don’t roll out as frequently as some other blogs, when Marinka NYC‘s (formerly Motherhood in NYC) latest post goes live, you can guarantee the fellow “mom-mentary” in the message boards will be flowing. Marinka searches to straddle the line of respecting her children’s privacy while being a noted mommy-blogger who is expected share her experiences. In her own witty and hilarious tone, maybe the balance will come from “some sort of a Creative Commons-type license perhaps.”
Certain posts are very mom-oriented as she struggles with her 13 year old daughter going out to dinner with a friend for the first time – note: she suggests baby steps for coping with separation anxiety. Other posts feature Marinka’s own thoughts and hang-ups, like a hilarious tirade against the phrase, “No offense,” which can always translate into parenthood. If readers are concerned about a dull dialogue, they certainly won’t find it in Marinka’s hilarious, even intelligently snarky discussions. Motherhood in NYC is an unpretentious, matter-of-fact and very readable take on growing as a family in the Big Apple. — Melanie Baker
