[Editor’s note: Polanco is also slated to appear on a New York Family cover this summer–stay tuned!]
Best known for her role as inmate and expectant mama Daya Diaz on the critically acclaimed and super-popular Netflix series “Orange is the New Black,” Dascha Polanco–a Brooklyn-raised local mom–is about to take her movie career to the next level.
Though fans can get excited to see her most immediately in director Tom McCarthy’s “The Cobbler,” starring Adam Sandler, which hits theaters on March 13, and in “Orange’s” upcoming third season premiering on June 12, they can also get excited to see her in a big movie role in the coming year.
It was recently announced that Polanco is set to co-star in the film, “Joy,” for director David O. Russell. Polanco will star with Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, and Edgar Ramirez. Based on the true story of Joy Mangano, who as a single mom of three, working multiple jobs just to get by, invented the self-wringing “Miracle Mop” and became a Home Shopping Network sensation.
Polanco will play “Jackie,” Joy’s fearless and loyal best friend who helps Joy start the mop company and stands by her side through every struggle. As we anticipate Polanco’s upcoming NYF cover appearance, we can’t wait to check her out in these new roles–congratulations are definitely in order for this talented local mother and actress!
