The Thinking Kid’s Camp

Want your child to explore the great outdoors this summer and just be a kid for a while longer—but you worry his brain may go to mush? Consider The Summer Camps at Stony Brook University where the camp experience combines recreation with education. Aside from Stony Brook’s traditional day camp options which blend three hours of sports activities with three hours of learning experiences—from the study of sea life and exotic creatures to space exploration—Stony Brook offers new Camp Academy options. In Game Builders Academy, for ages 5 to 6 and 7 to 9, students apply math and other skills to design and program their own video games! For kids ages 9 to 15, there’s the Game Builders Academy: Intro to Video Game Design and Development. Here, students use math, logic, communication, critical thinking skills; problem solving and creative thinking to design video games. A hot lunch and snack is included in each camp option. Call or visit the Web to learn more.
