Navigating the Maze: How One Benefits Advisor is Helping Families with Disabilities Thrive

When Cayle first began her journey into the world of disability services, it wasn’t as a professional—it was as a sister and later as a mother. Her brother, diagnosed with an intellectual disability, was her first introduction to the complex and often confounding systems that families must navigate to get the support their loved ones need. Years later, when her son was diagnosed with learning disabilities, she found herself once again deep in the trenches—learning, advocating, and fighting to access the care, education, and benefits that every child deserves.

That experience turned into a calling. Today, Cayle is a dedicated special needs benefits advisor who uses her lived experience to guide families through the often overwhelming labyrinth of government programs, services, and bureaucracies. She knows firsthand that the stakes are high and the path can be long, confusing, and expensive.

“I meet so many parents who are exhausted and scared,” Cayle says. “They love their children fiercely but don’t know where to begin. The system isn’t built for ease—it’s built with red tape.”

In New York State, families are fortunate to have access to a number of powerful programs like OPWDD Self Direction, Medicaid, SSI, and job and housing supports. These can be life-changing—but only if you can navigate the eligibility, paperwork, waitlists, and coordination across multiple agencies. For many families, that’s where the process stops. Frustrated and overwhelmed, they quit their jobs to care for their loved one full time, forfeiting income, benefits, and personal goals in the process.

Cayle is determined to change that.

She believes that most people with disabilities are employable and capable of leading full, rich, meaningful lives—with the right supports in place. As an advisor, she helps families not only apply for and secure benefits, but also build long-term plans for the future. Her network includes agencies, legal professionals, financial planners, and advocacy organizations, all dedicated to creating opportunities for independence and inclusion.

Beyond one-on-one advising, Cayle is also a determined advocate. She helped found an organization aimed at breaking through bureaucratic logjams and pushing for more responsive, family-centered policies. Her goal is simple but profound: to transform fear into hope.

“When a child is first diagnosed, it can feel like the floor is falling out from under you,” she says. “But there is a path forward. There are resources. There is a future. I want families to know they’re not alone.”

Through her work, Cayle is not only helping families access the benefits they need—she’s helping to shift the conversation around disability itself. From a story of limits to one of possibilities.

Her message is clear: With the right support, every individual with a disability can live their best life. And with the right guide, every family can find their way there.
