Handfuls of PTAs across the country received a grant of $1,000 this week from the National PTA as part of their seventh annual Take Your Family to School Week, which occurs in February to help promote family engagement and support student achievement.
Forty five PTAs across the country, including McKinley School’s PTA in Fairfield, CT, received grants of $1,000 this week from the National PTA as part of its seventh consecutive Take Your Family to School Week Grant program aimed to expand and enhance family engagement efforts and to support student achievement.
“We’re proud to provide these to PTAs at the grassroots level to ensure that our legacy lives, families are involved and students succeed,” says Betsy Landers, national PTA president. “This special week also reminds us that now more than ever all families, schools, and communities need to work together to increase students achievement as U.S. children are behind their counterparts around the world in English and math.”
Each PTA grantee demonstrated a commitment to improve family engagement in their school communities and showed how their work will support the PTA’s national standards for family-school partnerships, which include speaking up for every child, sharing power between families and school staff, collaborating with the community, and supporting students’ successes.
During Take Your Family to School Week (February 12-17), schools have planned activities featuring a variety of educational themes, including preparing for college, literacy, math, English, and more.
The week is sponsored by the AXA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company.
