Mommy, Music, & Me now offers Music Together’s classes at Gym-Azing in Astoria. The music and movement classes help children learn to express themselves through music.

Wendy DeAngelis has been offering the Music Together® program through Mommy, Music, & Me to Queens families for the past 10 years. In October, DeAngelis began offering her classes at Gym-Azing in Astoria “Tina [Mavrelis Charalambous], who is the owner of Gym-Azing, called me and asked me to bring Music Together to her space,” DeAngelis says. “Within two weeks, I had three classes up and running.”
Music Together, which has 25 years of research behind the it, is an international early childhood music and movement education program for children ages newborn to 5 years old that is offered to more than 2,000 communities worldwide. “Music Together is the gold-standard of early childhood music and movement education,” DeAngelis says. “And the exciting thing I’m able to offer at Gym-Azing is an art and literacy program that ties into [Music Together’s] curriculum.”
The program uses egg shakers, scarves, rhythm sticks, drums, and other percussive and bell-like instruments to help the children and their grown-ups express themselves through music. “They’re seeing it, hearing it, and experiencing it on a physical level,” DeAngelis says. “We don’t want to just give you your 45-minute music fix for the week. We give you [and your children] a whole new vocabulary and set of tools to enjoy music throughout your life.”
Music Together uses music from around the world, and in different languages, in its curriculum and all teachers are highly trained early childhood music educators.
