M.A.T.S.S. Kids’ Gym, which offers a variety of physical and educational classes for kids on Long Island, has partnered with IncrediFlix to offer a movie-making summer day camp.
M.A.T.S.S. Kids’ Gym, with locations in Syosset and Bellmore, started by offering gymnastics programs for children. It now offers an array of physical and educational programs. Along with the gym’s usual gymnastics-based classes, full-fledged day care and nursery school, after-school, and summer camp programs, this summer M.A.T.S.S. will offer a new filmmaking program for kids in partnership with IncrediFlix.
Nancy Wohlsen, director and owner of M.A.T.S.S. Syosset location calls the IncrediFlix mini-camp a “new and exciting offer.” The camp, which teaches children how to produce and act in their own films, will be held at M.A.T.S.S. Syosset from Aug. 17-23. In the Live Action Flix camp, children partake in every aspect of live action filmmaking, from location scouting and costume production to acting, filming, and directing. As part of the Lego Flix program, children write and produce stories that take place on a set created with Legos. The films that children create will be available for download a month after the end of camp.
The Live Action Flix Camp runs from 9am-12pm, while the Lego Flix camp runs from 1-4pm. There is also a combined Live Action and Lego Flix program that runs from 9am-4pm.
M.A.T.S.S. Kids’ Gym also offers an array of services for children ages 3 months to 12 years. Children are exposed to gymnastics and other enrichment activities all under one roof. Gymnastics is the core of M.A.T.S.S. curriculum, Wholsen says, because “we believe that gymnastics is a perfect foundational sport. It’s flexibility, it’s strength, it’s self-confidence, it’s balance. It’s a total body sport. We incorporate gymnastics into every single one of our classes.”
