Mathnasium Learning Centers opened a new location in Fresh Meadows, Queens this past January.
The math enrichment program is based on a monthly membership where kids can come in as often as they like, with the hope that they will attend an hour long session two or three times a week, says owner, Kaitlin O’Neill.
Students are first assessed for their math strengths and weaknesses, and based on the results, are given a plan to improve their skills. Whether they need a little extra help or just want to keep their skills fresh, it is the goal of the Mathnasium staff to help each child understand why they’re doing what they’re doing along with the knowledge of the different ways to solve math problems. The staff at Mathnasium aims to “make sure [students] have all of the skills and tools necessary to prepare them to succeed in school and everyday life,” says O’Neill.
Along with the monthly memberships, Mathansium offers a summer camp option for students from June 20 until Sept. 10. These packages function similarly to the monthly memberships and allow students to take advantage of math tutoring while they are out of school. These sessions can help students with a vast range of skills from mastering number facts to preparing for college.
