Manhattan Soccer Club Hires Academy Director

Manhattan Soccer Club recently hired Carlos Moreira as the U5-U7 Development Academy director.

Moreira is a former Division III offensive player and has been playing soccer since the age of 5. He has coached club soccer for more than eight years and also serves as Manhattan Soccer Club’s Boys U8 Division staff coach.

Moreira started as the U5-U7 Development Academy director in July. He is “experienced and dedicated to the job,” according to Rich Corvino, executive director of Manhattan Soccer Club.

The U5-U7 Development Academy classes, for children ages 4-6, are meant to be fun and informative experiences that focus on learning and building upon basic skills. The Development Academy hopes to prep children before they go into the more advanced teams and games in the older age brackets.

Under new leadership, the Development Academy plans to offer classes more times a week than in previous seasons. It also intends to move more classes indoors when the weather is bad to an Upper West Side location.

Manhattan Soccer Club offers training programs and about 70 travel teams for boys and girls ages 8-18 years old. Manhattan Soccer Club’s home fields are located on Randall’s Island and teams practice in several locations.

Manhattan Soccer Club also presents the annual Kick-Off Classic, a college showcase and tournament. The next one takes places March 2-4, 2018 and more than 150 college coaches are expected to attend.
