Magic Day Camp is a summer day camp for children ages 4-14 years old, and is the only day camp in Queens to offer daily swimming at nearby Roslyn Pines Swim Club, says Deneille Loprete, camp director. The camp also goes bowling weekly and goes on three off-site trips each week, Loprete says. Past off-site trips include Luna Park, New York Hall of Science, and The Museum of the Moving Image.
Located in Bayside, the camp is held at Alexander Graham Bell School with air-conditioning, a cafeteria, and an auditorium. In addition to swimming for an hour every morning, kids can participate in a full dance program and a variety of sports including tennis and martial arts. There is also a dedicated director for each program, Loprete says. For example, there is an aquatic director for swimming, and a dance director for the dance program.
Loprete says having individual directors for each program is nurturing thing that smaller camps like Magic Day Camp are able to offer.
Camp runs from June 29-Aug. 21 from 9am-3:30pm, and children can enroll for two to eight weeks. Magic Day Camp offers early drop-off (7:30am) and late pick-up (4-6pm) for an additional fee. Camp tuition includes door-to-door transportation and lunch, as well as all special trips, Loprete says.
