After-school arts program Long Island Arts and Crafts now offers its classes at Basketworks in Syosset. The after-school program aims to expose young children to art and the different mediums used to create art, including paint, mosaics, and collage. Children attend once a week and learn to create intricate and detailed art, including how to use the basic shapes they already know as the foundation of drawing.

Long Island Arts and Crafts, an after-school arts and crafts program for children ages 4 and older, began offering its classes at Basketworks in Syosset in September. The after-school program helps kids learn to create in a variety of art mediums, including paint, mosaics, sculpture, collage, and decoupage. They will also learn how to create intricate and detailed art, such as how to use the basic shapes they already know as the foundation of drawing.
The program aims for each child to learn something new, get a little messy, and have a great time. “There is nothing like this opened for children to be exposed to all kinds of different mediums of art, and get messy, and create a beautiful, beautiful work,” director Alexa Rubin says.
Long Island Arts and Crafts’ after-school program runs through June 20 with two class options offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays: a 45-minute class for preschoolers and one-hour class for children in kindergarten and first grade. Children attend either day once a week.
