Long Island University (LIU) Post Youth Camp will offer busing for its summer day camp and Performing Arts Academy this upcoming 2016 season.
“We wanted to expand and get more kids into the programs,” Nickolette Kacharaba, director of continuing education and youth programs at LIU Post, says.
By providing busing from Suffolk and Nassau counties, Kacharaba says LIU Post Youth Camp hopes to make its programs more accessible to families who live farther away from the university. Kacharaba says this is especially true for the Performing Arts Academy, which is smaller and newer than the day camp and will be going into its fifth season this year.
The Performing Arts Academy is a three-week program designed for children ages 5-16. Campers have the option of participating in the camp’s choral, band, or orchestra programs in addition to taking elective courses. It begins July 27. The summer day camp has one-week to eight-week programs running June 27 through Aug. 12. It boasts a variety of activities Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This program is designed for children ages 5-15 with a counselor in training program for 16-year-old campers. Both programs are held on the LIU campus, giving campers access to all the university and all its teachers have to offer.
“Our resources at the college campus are endless,” Kacharaba says.
Registration for both summer programs is currently open. Discounts are available to those who register before January 30, and an additional discount is open to those who pay in full before May 1. Families interested in busing are asked to register before April 1 to secure a spot. Bus drop off locations will be determined for each town based off of registration.
