Kids in Larchmont Are Rewarded for Wearing Bike Helmets This Summer

Kids can receive free, pizza, ice cream, candy, and more with just one stipulation: wearing a bike helmet.

Skull Patrol is an initiative created by the Larchmont Recreation Department and Larchmont Chamber of Commerce to encourage children to wear helmets while riding bikes.

This is how it works: when bike officers in the Village of Larchmont see a kid wearing his or her helmet correctly, the child will receive a gift card from a local business, then the gift card will be redeemed for a prize (kid-friendly gifts or treats). At the end of the summer, all of the kids who received prizes will be entered in a drawing for a new bike, thanks to donations from Coldwell Banker of Larchmont and Miller’s Toy Store.

Since Skull Patrol began on May 1, more than 250 tickets have been awarded to kids in the neighborhood, according to Mamaroneck Daily Voice. Participating businesses in the community include:

  • Auray Gourmet
  • Bread & Cocoa
  • Choice Copy
  • COCOA Clutch Handbags and Accessories
  • D’Agostino Clothiers and Tailors
  • East Avenue Café
  • Down to Earth Larchmont Farmers’ Market & Go-Go Pops
