Just the thought of cold, wintry weather makes us want to curl up in bed, but Kids’ Night On Broadway (KNOB) sure gives us a great reason to venture outdoors. From February 5-9 in 2012, kids ages 6-18 can enjoy over 20 participating Broadway shows FOR FREE with an accompanying full-paying adult (see the full list below). Though the program is months away, tickets go on sale on Tuesday, November 1—and are expected to go fast like always—so we’re recommending everyone to jump on the wagon early.
Presented in NYC by The New York Times, KNOB is aimed at bringing families out to the theater despite the frosty season, homework and all the other reasons that often keep kids holed up at home in the winter. Broadway buffs will be delighted that most shows are participating, from classics like The Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King to more recent hits like Wicked and How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, which will star Disney Channel’s Nick Jonas after the New Year. The discount will also be offered for Off-Broadway favorite Stomp, an explosive and creative concert using unconventional props like brooms and trash can lids as pseudo-instruments.
Performances aside, the week also showcases a free festival on top of KNOB-exclusive discounts for parking and dining. Much like the BOGO Broadway deals, over 15 participating restaurants in the Times Square area are offering a free children’s entrée with an adult entrée for patrons holding KNOB tickets. Broadway attendees will also take home a special KNOB souvenir playbill to remember the night by.
Though tickets are open to the public starting at 12pm noon EST on November 1, jump the gun by joining The Broadway Fan Club for an invite to the pre-sale. You’ll have the chance to snag tickets on Monday, October 31 between noon and 7pm ET and earlier on Tuesday between 9am and noon EST. You can purchase tickets on the official KNOB website or visit The Broadway Concierge & Ticket Center inside the Times Square Visitor Center—just remember to mention the Broadway Fan Club! (Note: There are only a limited number of pre-sale tickets available, so if you don’t get them during the pre-sale, be sure to try again after noon on Tuesday.)
Having trouble deciding what to see? Luckily, you can purchase up to eight tickets! Here’s the list of participating shows to get you thinking—act quickly.
