As part of its travel program, Kenwal Day Camp in Melville is adding an overnight trip to Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari in Jackson, NJ.
Campers at Kenwal Day Camp in Melville can now sign up to join the camp’s inaugural overnight trip to Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari located in Jackson, NJ.
Kids in seventh to 10th grades will spend a day at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, the amusement park’s waterpark, and stay overnight at a hotel in New Jersey. They will spend the following day at Six Flags Great Adventure.
The family-owned camp for kids ages 3-15 was founded in 1957 and has not had an overnight travel option until now. Camp director Howie Feinstein says he wanted to revamp the travel program to keep it fun and up to date with what kids want out of their summer. “Every year, I want to put a good amount of money back into the camp just so we keep the programs fresh and we keep the camp fresh,” he says.
The camp will offer day trips and late night trips for the older kids around New York, such as bus tours and Shark Speedboat Tours in Manhattan and a Banana Boat trip in the Hamptons.
Along with the new travel programs, specialized courts were built for second-graders and younger to play on to keep them separated from older, more experienced campers. Now, the younger group has its own tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball field, and zip lines. Kenwal Day Camp also added new paddleball walls, walkways, and bathrooms throughout the whole operation.
The camp runs June 29-Aug. 21 from 9am-4pm, Monday-Friday, and registration is open.
