With the new common core standards in NYC schools, children are assigned more homework. To keep students on schedule, Kent Prep now offers a time management and homework course for children in New York City. Kent Prep, and academic enrichment school in Bayside, also offers SAT, SSAT, and Gifted & Talented exam prep and summer academic enrichment.
Students enrolled in the Kent Prep Summer Program have opportunities for outdoor activities.
Kent Prep, a supplementary education program for preschool to 12th grade students, now offers a homework and time management course for its students. Faced with a set of new “common core standards”—regulations that set higher academic standards in schools—in New York City schools, teachers are now assigning a larger amount of homework than in the past. Students are receiving so much homework that some third graders have been staying up until 12am to finish their assignments, according to Sharon You, program manager for Kent Prep.
The new course, she says, aims to help students balance their schedules and make schoolwork less stressful by teaching them how to stay on top of large amounts of work without becoming overwhelmed.
Kent Prep looks beyond scores and focuses on each individual student’s learning pace: Its goal isn’t to foster competition between kids, but to encourage students to challenge themselves. Kent Prep also offers SAT, SSAT, and Gifted & Talented test prep courses, as well as college application and financial aid counseling.
Kent Prep’s courses are open to both public and private school students.
