Summer Academic Enrichment Offered at Kent Prep

Kent Prep, a college preparatory school in Bayside, is now offering a summer academic enrichment program for children in kindergarten through 12th grades.

Kent Prep is kicking off the summer with a new enrichment program tailored to students in the tri-state area. The school, which was founded in 1989, offers a year-round preparatory curriculum with a concentration on building reading, writing, vocabulary, and critical thinking math skills. Kent Prep also provides extensive test prep, assisting students in everything from specialized high school tests to PSAT and SAT tests.

The special summer program, which will run July 6-Aug. 20, was developed with the goal of optimizing learning during the summer months. This a time when students can benefit from stronger reinforcement to prepare them for the next grade level, says program manager Sharon You.

Academic competition in the state is tough, says You, who hopes that students will be able to use the seven-week intensive session to gain confidence in their test-taking abilities, study subjects they haven’t yet been exposed to in class, and expand their critical thinking skills.

Students must take a placement exam to assess their proficiency before being enrolled into the appropriate summer class. There is also a pre-enrollment interview. The placement exam, open to everyone, will be held May 2 at 10am.

“What’s great about our program is that we have students who want to learn beyond what they are learning in school,” You says, “and that’s an environment we really want to foster.”

Classes are held Monday-Thursday from 9am-1:45pm, with a 30 minute break, and students will study two subjects per day. Registration is now open.
