For the first time ever, Joffrey Ballet School is offering its Children’s Ballet and Youth Ballet programs at its second location in Long Island City. The school is also adding a brand new musical theater program to teach kids Broadway-style and lyrical dance and singing techniques. The program will be offered in both locations.
Founded in 1953 by American dancer and choreographer Robert Joffrey, the Joffrey Ballet School in Manhattan offers a comprehensive curriculum in classical and contemporary ballet. Courses are tailored into age- and level-appropriate programs, with Children’s Ballet for kids ages 2-7 and Youth Ballet for kids ages 8-18. The school also offers adult dances classes and a Trainee Program for experienced dancers in pursue of professional careers. A range of educational and fitness courses, such as choreography, dance history, music, pilates, and yoga, are available as well.
Boasting over 2,000 square feet of state-of-the-art studio space, the Joffrey Dance Center launched in 2016 and will now welcome kids to participate in Children’s Ballet and Youth Ballet. Both curriculums are structured as an after-school program, with classes offered after 3pm Mondays-Fridays and all-day on Saturdays. To allow for a more focused learning environment, sizes are kept small, and there are about 10-15 students and 1-2 instructors per class.
“It’s a great one-on-one learning experience,” says Owner and Executive Director of Joffrey Ballet School Chris D’Addario.
Parents interested in enrolling their children in Joffrey Ballet School can do so online. Tuition rates start at $125 a month per class, with the option to add more than one class a week.
“You’re probably not going to find that anywhere else,” D’Addario says. The school offers parents the option of a monthly plan of nine total payments or a full plan of one payment due upon registration.
