Istein Education Center in Forest Hills added ukulele, choir, and percussion classes in July. The music school serves children ages 4 and older, including adults.
Ukulele class is offered three days a week for children ages 4-16 and is taught by a classically trained teacher. The class will be divided into two age groups for younger and older students.
Choir classes are also available for students in two age groups, from ages 4-16. Choir class music ranges from gospel music to pop music, and from Broadway musicals to jazz. Students will also learn how to read music.
Istein Education Center also offers 1-on-1 drum classes for children ages 6 and older, including adults. Students will practice on electric drums and eventually learn the entire drum set.
“Our music program is constantly developing to cater to what our students want and what their parents want for them,” says director Richard Liu.
Istein Education Center aims to create private lessons and after-school programs that will allow kids who have never been exposed to music classes to get their feet wet and learn to love music. The music school also offers piano and recorder classes as well as songs in Chinese.
“We are a music school, an enrichment school, an after school, and a summer school,” Liu says. “We are an all-in-one place, and that is what sets us apart from other similar schools. As Einstein says, ‘A genius finds inspiration in music,’ we set music as a key component into all different programs always.”
