Huntington Learning Center, which has locations in Manhattan and on Long Island, recently opened its Park Slope location. The supplemental education center aims to make sure students have a basic educational skill set by using individualized programs.
The Huntington approach begins with an academic evaluation to find out each student’s strengths and weaknesses, which is then reviewed to develop a learning plan. Parents are then invited to a meeting where Huntington tutors discuss the learning plan and develop a tutoring schedule that meets the child’s needs.
“To make sure we’re giving every student the best education possible, we take the students to where they are comfortable and build academic skills from there,” says Nicole Mittelberg, company center operations manager.
Throughout the tutoring schedule, the tutors meet with the student’s parents to discuss progress at school, at home, and at the center. Tutors, with the parents’ permission, will also go on school visits to meet with the student’s teachers, guidance counselor, and coaches to discuss the progress they see. “We work together to help students succeed,” Mittelberg says. “This way, everyone is on the same page.”
Huntington also offers exam prep services for middle school, high school, and college entrance exams; state, Regents, and Advanced Placement exams; and the GED.
