Here’s to a Fabulous Fourth!

July Fourth
fireworks in
New York City
is a tradition not to be missed,
especially for kids! This year’s Macy’s fireworks—a city staple since
1958
—will be launched from The Hudson River, and there are numerous parks and
piers
along Manhattan’s West Side to take in the spectacular display, like Dewitt Clinton Park at West 52nd and 11th Avenue and Piers 54 and 84 along the Hudson River.

If you’re looking to add some water fun to your holiday celebration, consider a
cruise on the river; there are tons of family-friendly options at every price
point. Some favorites include the New York Waterway Tours
and New York Water Taxi tours.

Another festive option is the celebration aboard the USS Intrepid which includes a great view, tours of the flight deck, a deejay, food
and drinks for purchase and more.

There’s
also a host of themed events
happening all over the city made especially for
kids. We’re especially excited about The Declare Independence Workshop at
Leffert’s Historical House in
Prospect Park, the “Raising Citizens” hands-on event
at CMOM
and the Fourth of July Kids’ Cruise along the
Hudson River Park. Of course, another NYC
institution is the famed annual hotdog eating contest in
Coney Island.

Speaking of
hot dogs, we can also help out if you’re planning your holiday menu. Check out
our Yummy Delicious bloggers’ recipes for some inspired ideas, like watermelon
ice pops,
refreshing mint lemonade, and homemade guacamole. If you’re hoping to spend the day manning the grill, but don’t have any
backyard space of your own, check out one of the several NYC parks that permit
public grilling.

We know
that for many families July Fourth means a fun-filled trip to the beach—if
you’re still looking for the perfect coastal getaway, make sure to peruse our
favorite nearby beaches.

Of course,
July 4th isn’t just about barbecues and beachy fun—for those looking
to teach their families about the meaning of the holiday, we have a few
favorite movies and books
that kids are sure to love.
