Have A Seat, Kiddo

My kids outgrow things too quickly–toys, books, clothes, diapers. But one thing that sticks with them are their kid-sized arm chairs. Children love having their own grown-up-style seats to kick back in. Durable, comfy, and cool-looking, they’re the perfect place for reading a book, coloring, gazing out the window, or lining toy cars upon (as my son likes to do!). There are many styles available, but here are five of my favorites.

Cubino Toddler Chair. This chair’s modern design (pictured at top of page) is both stylish and practical. The removable micro suede cover is machine-washable and available in orange, green, blue or pink, while the base comes in either charcoal or brown. It’s light enough so a child can easily move it around on their own (which my kids enjoyed a little too much). And if you’re looking for a chair that’s eco-friendly and safe, this one is constructed from soy-based foam. $109.

FAO Schwarz Baby Monkey Plush Chair. What child wouldn’t love to be embraced by the arms of a monkey? This soft, beanbag-style chair includes a non-skid bottom so it doesn’t slide when kids jump into it. $70.

Modern Kids Chair by Newco. Resembling a grown-up chair but with kid-sized proportions, this sophisticated seat will stand out in any room. It comes in a range of modern patterns and colors, including brown, pink and green polka dots or a simple tan and brown combo. A removable pillow forms an adjustable backrest. $140.

Pottery Barn Anywhere Chair. One of the most popular children’s chairs available, this classy seat allows you to have your kid’s name or initials monogrammed on the backrest. It comes in a plethora of colors, fabrics, and patterns, from plaids to florals to solids. It’s also easy to clean–the cover can be removed and the cotton version is machine-washable. Boys’ Collection $99-$139; Girls’ Collection. $99 to $149.

Pkolino Little Reader. True to its name, this chair is an inviting place for little ones to curl up and read. The armrests curve up at the end to support a book, while side pockets provide some storage space. The cover is stain-resistant and the chair is simple to move around since it’s made of lightweight foam. You can choose from a range of fun themes and colors. $85.
