See Skippyjon Jones, the enchanting musical about a little kitten with big ears and even bigger dreams, at Mamaroneck’s Emelin Theatre.
May 6
Wild about reptiles? Then the Snake Hike and Turtle Monitoring event at Westmoreland Sanctuary in Mount Kisco is the place to be. On this hike, kids will learn about reptiles and how they’re different from other animals, see live examples of reptiles from the nature museum, and learn how their wild cousins survive in our backyard. Then they’ll take a walk in search of snakes and turtles. Also included: a visit to the pond to check the live traps for turtles that may have been captured as part of the turtle monitoring program.

Take advantage of TGIF!, May 11 at Jodi’s Gym in Mount Kisco, when you can drop the kids off for two hours of fun and fitness while you go out and have your own (early Mother’s Day) fun.

Does she love to party? If so, she won’t be able to resist the vibes at Groove’s Mother’s Day Jam featuring Music for Aardvarks, where she can sing and dance along to interactive numbers that celebrate moms and grandmas. (Of course, if Dad wants to let her sleep in and take the kids himself, we don’t think Mom will mind!)

Is she a bit of a free spirit? Then she’ll want to Celebrate Mother’s Day with Wolves to learn about the ways of wolf families and meet ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa, and Zephyr, along with a host of other endangered red and Mexican gray wolves.
Is she the proper sort? Then she’ll love A Victorian Mother’s Day in Glenview at the Hudson River Museum, where a living-history performance by a mother/daughter pair takes audiences back to the time of Victorian elegance along the Hudson.
Is she a sucker for a happy ending? Then take her Into the Woods. Watching Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s spellbinding musical at The Play Group Theatre, she can slip into a world filled with romance, magic, and the unexpected consequences of dreams that come true.

For more than 30 years, Green Chimneys has opened its doors to the community for Little Folk Farm Days, welcoming scores of young people to explore the bustling Brewster campus. This year, the tradition continues with an assortment of activities designed with kids (preschool to third grade) in mind—face painting by a professional artist, live shows featuring a magician and a reptile expert, crafts and games, hay rides, pony rides, and more.
May 20
Celebrating its 125-year history, The Field Library presents an un-BEE-lievable anniversary event for kids throughout the county: the 125th Peekskill Village Spelling Bee. Children in fourth through seventh grade can participate in the preliminary rounds at 4:30pm on May 10. Those in first through third grade can participate in their own preliminary rounds at 4:30pm on May 17. Finalists will participate in the May 20 final round at 2pm. Kacey Morabito, WHUD radio personality, will act as Queen Bee Top Judge. All participants will receive a free book; finalists and winners will receive special prizes.
May 26-28
Awesome Acrobats & Amazing Animals
Over Memorial Day weekend, stop by Historic Hudson Valley’s three-day fair, Animals & Acrobats, at Van Cortlandt Manor. Capturing the fun of an early-American traveling circus with curiosities, daredevils, and beautiful creatures, the event includes continuous performances throughout the weekend. Performers include fire-juggling acrobats, the conservation group Two by Two Zoo, birds of prey demonstrations by Flight of the Raptor, and Bells & Motley, who provide storytelling, dance, and olden music featuring a hurdy-gurdy (an old-fashioned stringed instrument). There will be tumbling acrobats, tightrope walkers, fortune-tellers, mimes, and much more to enjoy, including picnic fare, treats, and beverages.
