Exploratory Fun
How can we save our Earth? What causes soil erosion? What can we do to keep the balance between plants and animals on Long Island? Kids are brimming with questions, and environmentalists will provide the answers in the Garden Explorers program. Kids ages 6-12 will hike and explore the Old Westbury Gardens’ grounds in search of clues to conservation and participate in fun activities.

No Place Like Home
Imagine traveling to Storybook Forest and meeting the Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks, The Big Bad Wolf, and other characters from classic fairytales. That’s where Blue and his friend Steve go in the interactive musical Blue’s Clues: The Most Spectacular Place. The popular pair also find themselves in outer space, with its galaxies and planets, as they go in search of the most spectacular place. Would you believe they find it? And surprisingly it’s…home.

Dockside Celebration
Join pirates and other swashbuckling residents for Port Washington’s 22nd Annual Harborfest. The whole family can enjoy nautical-style entertainment as well as a craft show, children’s fun park, talent show, food court, free coach rides, kayaking, and more. FREE!

Help Make the Sun Rise
Make a difference by supporting the 7th annual Walk to Help the Sun Rise for Children with Cancer. Proceeds from the event go to Sunrise Day Camp, a free, full-service day camp in Wheatley Heights for children with cancer and their siblings. The walkathon will be held at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds on Colonial Springs Road in Wheatley Heights (5 minutes from Route 110). There will be three different courses to choose from, including a new 5K walk. Games, prizes, entertainment, food, character appearances, pony rides, and more will be part of this special day.

Summer’s Here!
As spring gives way to summer, kids can enjoy the warmer temperatures and the beautiful outdoors at the Long Island Children’s Museum’s Summer Celebration. They’ll say hello to some of the season’s prettiest flowers, learn how animals and even the daintiest plants co-exist, and listen to a relaxing soundtrack as they create rock paintings inspired by nature.

Picture Perfect
How many times have you stared at a painting, willing yourself to be transported to that time and place? At Framed: Step into Art, a temporary exhibit opening at the nearby Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City, kids can actually step inside the framework of famous paintings. Other activities include traveling back to the Canadian Rockies in 1916 and discovering camping gear like John Singer Sargent would have used; riding Clementine Hunter’s Big Chicken; and helping complete Diego Rivera’s mural “Corn Festival.” Mona Lisa makes an appearance in both her original form and several parodies.
