FasTracKids and JEI Learning Center, located in Rego Park, will offer a new science and engineering program in the fall.
FasTracKids and JEI Learning Center aim to provide children in preschool through 10th grade comprehensive and enriching learning programs that involve critical thinking, communication, and vocational development. Launching the third week of September, the Engineering and Science Achievement program will focus on subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering.
Children ages 6-13 are eligible to register for three modules structured as introductory, intermediate, and advanced level classes. Each module will be held for approximately five months, resembling a school semester, in 2-hour sessions once a week. Students are encouraged to enter at an introductory level so that once the module is completed, they can register for intermediate and so on. There are pre-requisites for the advanced level module, scheduled to begin in January, which can be obtained through beginner level modules.
During each module, students will learn a concept and theory according to the subject they are exploring, and will work on projects individually and collaboratively. Students are encouraged to make presentations and come up with their own ideas. At the end of each lesson, parents will receive a summary sheet explaining what the students explored during that time.
“Science and engineering are important because this is where kids learn to come up with ideas, develop things, work with their hands, and have an interactive experience while at the same time using their creativity and imagination,” says director Dave Nagar.
FasTracKids has multiple locations across the United States, but this location is the only one offering a science and engineering curriculum as of September.
