Family Therapeutic Counseling Matters is a professional counseling center that opened its doors to the Westport community on Jan. 2. It provides psychotherapy, therapeutic mediation, and personal and relational enrichment training for individuals, families, and couples.
Owner Jeffrey Schutz says he helps people find ways to cope with life’s challenges. “People are not always able to change their circumstances but they can learn to deal with them and continue to find satisfaction in life,” he says.
Family relationships become vulnerable in the face of change, Schutz says. Family Matters aims to provide both professional guidance and personal understanding to clients. Schutz is particularly able to relate to families with children who have special needs, he says, because of his own family experience. He and his wife share a love for hiking and camping, but his child has a severe handicap. Hiking didn’t seem like a love they would be able to pass on, Schutz says, but despite obstacles, they were able to share in the experience as a family.
“Family Matters provides quality personalized services that help individuals, couples, and families go from surviving to thriving in the relationships that matter most,” Schutz says. “It’s positive, professional, and personal. Ultimately we help people find resolution.”
