The Youth Art Month (YAM) Co-Chairpersons Julia Lang-Shapiro, Heather McCutcheon and Donnalyn Shuster are happy to announce the 2019 State Flag Competition Winners. This event is an important part of the award-winning Youth Art Month Program as an endorsed initiative of the New York State Art Teacher’s Association.
The New York State 2019 Overall Flag Design Winner is Julia Manolios, an eighth grader at Long Island School for the Gifted whose art teacher is Robin O’Leary. Julia will have her work created into the flag that will hang at the National Art Education Association Conference in Boston in March. Julia will receive a smaller version of the flag to keep and display.
In addition, all the winning designs will represent New York State on the YAM Museum at the 2019 Conference this March in Boston. Nationally, YAM is supported by the Council for Art Education, Inc. and has served since 1961 as a program designed to promote the value of strong visual arts education programs in public and private schools during the month of March.
