Harbor Country Day School Summer Camp & Workshops appointed David Romero as its new camp director earlier this year. Romero, who got his start as a camp counselor for Harbor Country Day School Summer Camp in high school, plans to expand the camp’s summer learning workshops.

Harbor Country Day School Summer Camp & Workshops, a summer camp for children in preschool through eighth grade, welcomed David Romero as its new camp director in January. Romero, however, is no stranger to the camp—he was a camp counselor when he was in high school, and after earning his teaching certification, became head counselor.
Romero’s goal is to expand and enhance Harbor’s summer workshops, elective courses that campers can opt to take in a number of different subjects including ELA, Math, journalism, painting, and cooking. Some workshops offer extended academic learning for campers who do not want to fall behind over the summer and others give campers the opportunity to participate in activities that interest them and are not necessarily available at school.
Harbor also offers a two-year counselor-in-training program for students entering ninth or 10th grades. This year, Romero will run the program for 10th graders, working on caretaking skills and Red Cross Babysitters, CPR, and First Aid workshops, as well as skills like résumé building and good interviewing techniques.
Harbor is also beginning the “Date Nights” program for parents. On the second, fourth, and sixth Fridays of camp, parents can drop off their kids from 6pm-9pm for an evening of inexpensive babysitting in a familiar environment.
Harbor Country Day School Summer Camp & Workshops runs from June 24 to August 9 for a full or mini-day camp program.
