Dance Reverie in Forest Hills, well known throughout Queens for its adult studio and specifically “social dance” classes, now offers children’s dance classes.
Dance classes for children are held Thursday-Saturday and were added in September. Children ages 5-18 can take ballroom, Latin, ballet, jazz, tap, modern, hip-hop, and musical theater classes. Children ages 3-5 can participate in “creative movement” classes, which introduce basic elements of dancing styles. Other Dance Reverie children’s dance classes include pointe, acting, and Irish step dance, as well as mommy-and-me classes.
“We are a highly rated dance studio for adults, and we intend to hold our children’s classes to the same standard,” says studio owner Kyle Volkof, who teaches the children’s classes along with fellow dance instructors Kari Rusinko and Rhonda Cates. Volkof has spent over 10 years dancing and teaching dance. “We believe in quality over quantity when it comes to our classes,” he says.
Children’s dance classes at Dance Reverie are capped at 10 to ensure every student gets equal attention. Registration is currently open for Dance Reverie’s children’s dance program. Starting in December, children’s classes will be offered five days a week. New students can sign up for a free dance lesson online.
In the community, Dance Reverie instructors have donated their time free of charge to the local school for arts, J.H.S. 157 Stephen A. Halsey, to bring dance programs into the classroom. These students proceeded to put on a performance for the PTA of the school.
