Broadway Dance Center Children and Teens, a family-friendly Upper West Side location, is scheduled to open in early August.
Broadway Dance Center Children and Teens will offer classes seven days a week for children ages 6 months to 18 years on a variety of dance styles including ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and tap.
During the first month of its opening (scheduled for early August), the dance school will be offering summer classes and summer camp. The summer classes will be for children ages 3-9 and focus on different dance styles. The summer camp will be held in four weeklong sessions for children ages 3-14, with different weekly themes including hip-hop, Broadway, and all styles. The schedule for the fall classes will open in September.
In addition to dance classes for children and teens, the new studio will be offering a selection of baby-and-me classes, which “are a great way for new parents to really get out there and meet other mommies, daddies, caregivers, and get active,” says Diane King, executive director of Broadway Dance Center. Baby-and-me classes will include Pouch Baby Jam, a fitness class for parents in which they dance around with their child; Pouch Baby Barre; and Baby & Me Yoga.
The goals of Broadway Dance Center’s new studio are to create a family-friendly environment that’s catered to young dancers and their parents, where both the parents and the children feel safe. The new dance school will have a parent lounge and a space for students to do work while waiting to be picked up.
“We want this studio to be very family friendly,” says Erica Wallen, associate director.
