This year the Macy’s Foundation is kicking off its 63rd annual fishing contest at Prospect Park with the traditional release of a largemouth bass, dubbed R.H. Macy, before the contest.
Children 15 and younger dare to cast their rods, reels and luck against R.H., that wily old gent that eludes avid anglers every year, from July 14 to 18, 10 am to 4 pm daily (no rain dates).
Young catchers can sign-up same day at the Park; groups of 10 or more must call (718) 287-3400 x101 to register. Admission is free and equipment and instruction is provided.
Prizes are awarded daily to those who haul in the biggest fish of the day. Before casting their lines upon the lake, participants attend a free, fun and educational workshop led by Prospect Park Audubon Center educators and the Urban Park Rangers.
This year the contest moves to its new location at the Lake shoreline at Wellhouse Drive and the Peninsula. Enter the park at Prospect Park Southwest and Vanderbilt Street and follow the signs.
The contest is free.
