Angelina Ballerina joined Studio B Dance Center in Westchester County as a guest instructor in July as part of the Angelina Ballerina Dance Academy. Young ballerinas listen to an Angelina Ballerina story and then bring the text to life through dance while answering questions about the story which improves reading comprehension, listening, and verbal skills.

Studio B Dance Center has provided kids ages 3-18 with dance classes for 17 years. In July, the studio officially welcomed a new guest instructor: Angelina Ballerina. As one of about 100 dance studios across the country selected for the Angelina Ballerina Dance Academy literacy program, Studio B now offers classes for 3- to 6-year-olds who want to turn their love for the Angelina Ballerina books into a social, physical, and artistic activity they can enjoy for life. The Angelina Ballerina Dance Academy, which got its start in Australia, England, and Ireland, is a weekly class in which young ballerinas listen to a small portion of Angelina Ballerina’s lyrical text and then have the chance to bring the text to life through dance.
“In the books, Angelina loves to dance so much she can’t even walk past a chair without pretending it’s a bar on which to practice,” says Studio B owner Nancy Solomon. We try to inspire that same joy in our youngest performers.”
Through the Angelina Ballerina Dance Academy, young dancers have a chance to participate freely—but still benefit from the structure of a traditional ballet class. And, by responding to questions about the Angelina Ballerina text, young children can hone their reading comprehension, listening, and verbal skills in a fun way.
Classes are divided into two sections—ages 3-4 and ages 4-6—and have ongoing registration, so it’s never to late to decide to join a class.
