All Star Studios, a performing arts and dance studio in Forest Hills, is hosting two summer dance clinics that end in half-time performances during New York Liberty games at Madison Square Garden.
All Star Studios, a Forest Hills-based studio that offers dance, yoga, and performing arts classes and camps for children and adults, will host two summer dance clinics that end in half-time performances during New York Liberty games at Madison Square Garden in Midtown Manhattan.
Rysa Childress, owner and director of the studio, says the idea for the clinic came last year. MSG had asked All Star Studio to perform a half-time dance routine for a game last season. While watching the studio’s performing team dance the routine, Childress says she and the other instructors had said they wished they had had the opportunity when they were kids. “It was such an amazing experience that we wanted to give that opportunity to any dancer,” Childress says.
The clinic will run in two sessions: July 13-16 and Aug. 18-21. For three of the four days, students, ages 7-18, will spend 2 hours a day learning the choreography to a jazz/hip-hop inspired piece, and on the fourth day, they will perform the dance. “We will create choreography for the dancers based on their abilities,” Childress says. “We want it to be all levels because getting to dance in Madison Square Garden is such a cool thing.”
Children enrolled in the clinic will receive three tickets (one for the dancer and two for guests) and performance attire, including an outfit and dance shoes.
Childress requests that dancers register a week before the clinic is set to start, and says that up to 25 dancers can register in each session.
