JEI Learning Center, an academic enrichment center for kids, recently opened a Floral Park location in Glen Oaks, Queens. The center offers English, math, reading, writing, and problem solving tutoring to help children in the subject that they are struggling with in school.

JEI Learning Center offers supplemental education to students who need extra help in the core curriculum. Subjects taught include math, English, reading and writing, and problem solving. Director Ken Lo, who opened his first location in Auburndale-Whitestone in 2012, opened his second location in Floral Park in September 2014.
The center is open to students in pre-K through ninth grades. The center provides programs after school and on weekends, and students usually attend for a total of 2 hours per week.
“We don’t want it to be overwhelming,” Lo says. “We want to keep the balance because we know they are in school and have extracurricular activities.”
The centers goal is to get to the students’ problem areas and start improving those right away. Prior to starting the program, each student is given an assessment. An individualized program is then designed for the student based on what they are lacking according to the assessment, Lo says. “We want to choose the appropriate subjects for each student,” he says.
There is 1-to-5 teacher-to-student ratio, and the teachers follow an objective-based model to pinpoint what the students needs.
Both locations are currently accepting students in all of their programs.
